The Minecraft Better Together Update is arguably the most important in the game's history. It is the release that makes the game a linked cross-platform experience. Starting today, Minecraft Better Together Update has left beta and is now widely available.
This is the update that introduces Cross Play, which allows gamers to interact and play Minecraft across Windows 10 PC, Xbox One, mobile, VR, and Nintendo Switch. The notable absentee from the list is Sony's PS4.
The Japanese company says it does not want to open Cross Play compatibility because it is worried its network could be compromised. Microsoft rubbished those claims and has since said it is in discussions with Sony to introduce Cross Play.
Interestingly, Epic Games new Fortnite title seems to be working online and linking Xbox One and PS4 gamers.
For non-PS4 gamers, Microsoft is talking about the Better Together Update as the Minecraft unifier. The company says “Minecraft: Xbox One Edition” or “Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition” and hi to a universal “Minecraft!”
