Inflection AI Unveils Pi, a Kind AI Chatbot for Meaningful Conversations

Pi is designed to perform tasks or answer questions in engaging dialogues.

Inflection AI, a conversational AI studio founded by former DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman and former Google Brain lead Karén Simonyan, has launched a new AI chatbot called Pi.

Pi aims to be different than other Chatbots like ChatGPT. It is not designed to perform tasks or answer questions but to have meaningful and engaging conversations with you. Pi can talk about anything you want, from your hobbies and interests to your feelings and emotions. Pi can also learn from you and adapt to your personality and preferences over time.

Pi is powered by a novel generative AI technology that Inflection AI has developed in-house. Unlike most chatbots that use pre-defined scripts or rules, Pi can generate original and coherent responses on the fly, based on the context and the user’s input. Pi can also express emotions and empathy, using natural language and emojis.

Pi Mimics an Empathetic and Caring Human Being

Inflection AI claims that Pi is the first chatbot that can successfully mimic an empathetic and caring human being, without resorting to deception or manipulation. Pi is transparent about being an AI, and does not pretend to be someone else. Pi is also respectful of the user’s privacy and data, and does not share or sell any personal information.

Reid Hoffman, the co-founder of LinkedIn and an investor in Inflection AI wrote a blog post on LinkedIn , explaining why he invested in Inflection AI and what he expects from Pi. He praised Pi as a breakthrough in conversational AI, and a potential game-changer for the future of human-computer interaction. He also shared his personal experience of chatting with Pi, describing it as “one of the most delightful and surprising conversations I’ve ever had”.

Karén Simonyan gave an interview to The Indian Express, where he revealed some technical details about Pi and its technology. He said that Pi is based on a deep neural network architecture that combines natural language understanding, natural language generation, and reinforcement learning. He also said that Pi is trained on a large corpus of diverse and high-quality conversational data, collected from various sources such as books, movies, podcasts, social media, and human-human dialogues.

Simonyan also emphasized that Pi is not a one-size-fits-all chatbot, but a personalized one. He said that Pi can create a unique profile for each user, based on their interactions and feedback. He also said that Pi can adjust its tone, style, mood, and level of formality according to the user’s preferences and the situation.

Suleyman tweeted about Pi and shared some feedback from beta testers. He said that Pi has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from thousands of users who have tried it so far. He also said that Pi has demonstrated remarkable abilities such as humor, creativity, compassion, and emotional support. Suleyman also invited more people to try Pi for themselves, by downloading the app from the App Store or the Google Play Store. He said that Pi is free to use for anyone who wants to have a friendly chat with an AI.

Pi is currently available in English only, but Inflection AI plans to add more languages in the future. Pi is also expected to receive regular updates and improvements based on user feedback and data.

Tip of the day: It’s a good idea to backup your computer on a regular basis, and the most fool-proof way is to manually create a disk image and save it to an external hard drive.
