Microsoft Updates Yammer on iOS and Android

Yammer users on the two leading mobile platforms have received a new update focused on improving the experience.

Microsoft has rolled out a pair of updates for Yammer this week, bumping the application on iOS and Android devices. Unfortunately, neither of the updates offered anything new in terms of features. Instead, Microsoft focused on squashing bugs and performance improvements.

However, the iOS update for Yammer did add some more functionality to the app. Specifically, users can now add a cover photo to their community on the app. Furthermore, performance in the conversation feed was tweaked.

Here’s the official release notes:

  • NEW functionality: Brand your community with a cover photo.
  • Increased performance of the user conversation feed.

Yammer on iOS is available from the App Store here.

On the Android side of the mobile platform market, Yammer received typical bug squashes and “cosmetic improvements”.  As usual, Microsoft has not detailed what those improvements were or what bugs were fixed. You can download the app for Android here.

If you are unfamiliar with Yammer, it gives users the ability to connect with others across an organization. It promotes working in collaboration and sharing ideas. Microsoft acquired Yammer in 2012 for $1.2 billion and has integrated the business social network into its services.

New Mobile Look

In September last year, Microsoft launched a new Yammer experience on iOS and Android. The company focused on a new user experience following a wider feature update in the summer.

Microsoft’s new design centered on a new bubble UI that organizes conversation replies and a new “Read more” option.

Microsoft says the new card-based design allows users to focus on the most important conversations. Indeed, Yammer has had a redesign in its content feed, including new icons, fonts, colors, and formatting.
