The company has also launched 28 unique AI chatbot characters, available on various platforms, each offering distinct personalities and interactive experiences.

Emu for Image Generation

Emu operates by leveraging a latent diffusion model pre-trained on 1.1 billion image-text pairs. The model is subsequently fine-tuned with a select set of visually appealing images, resulting in a system capable of generating high-quality and aesthetically pleasing visuals. According to Meta's research publication, Emu has demonstrated a significant improvement in image generation quality, achieving an 82.9% win rate compared to its pre-trained counterpart and outperforming the state-of-the-art SDXLv1.0 in visual appeal.

Enhancing User Experience Across Platforms

Emu is not just a technical advancement; it's a strategic enhancement aimed at enriching user experience on Meta's platforms. Users on Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp will soon find themselves equipped with a tool that transforms text into images, adding a new layer of creativity and personalization to their digital interactions. The integration of Emu into these platforms underscores Meta's commitment to fostering innovation and staying ahead in the competitive landscape.

Emu brings forth innovative features such as restyle and backdrop on Instagram. Restyle allows users to input text prompts like “watercolor” or “magazine collage,” and the tool updates the existing image based on those directions. The backdrop feature utilizes text prompts to add new AI-generated backgrounds to images, enhancing user creativity. Meta is also ensuring transparency by identifying when images are created using AI tools, allowing audiences to discern whether the content is synthetic or human-generated.

AI-Generated Stickers and Content Diversification

AI-generated stickers are another addition set to diversify content on Meta's apps. Powered by Meta's large language model Llama 2, this feature enables the creation of unique, high-quality stickers using text prompts, contributing to a more personalized user experience on Facebook Stories, Instagram Stories and DMs, Messenger, and WhatsApp. The rollout of these features to select English-language users over the next month marks a significant step in content diversification and user engagement.
