Google Introduces Duet AI for Workspace at $30 per User per Month

Google Duet AI is now generally available, an AI-powered tool that assists users across Google Workspace apps, including Gmail, Drive, Slides, and Docs.

Google has officially announced the general availability of its Duet AI for Google Workspace, setting the price at $30 per user per month, aligning with Microsoft’s 365 Copilot offering. Google’s Duet AI, described as an “always-on AI collaborator,” is deeply integrated into Google Workspace and Google Cloud. While Duet AI in Workspace is now available for all users, the Google Cloud version remains in preview and is set to be widely available later this year.

Google announced Duet AI back in March. Google’s Duet AI is a suite of  tools designed to collaborate with users and make work processes more efficient and creative. Duet AI is already integrated into several Google Workspace applications, including Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Meet.

In Gmail, Duet AI can now be used on mobile to draft complete responses with just a few words as a prompt. Google says that contextual assistance will be added soon, which will allow users to “create professional replies that automatically fill in names and other relevant information.”

Duet AI is designed to assist users across various Google Workspace apps, including Gmail, Drive, Slides, and Docs. As highlighted by The Verge, Duet AI can transform a Google Docs outline into a presentation in Slides, generate email responses, create charts from spreadsheet data, and even offer grammar checks. The AI tool also integrates with Google Meet, providing AI-based enhancements for lighting and sound, as well as automated meeting summaries. In Google Chat, Duet AI can summarize lengthy threads for users.

Integration with Google Chat

Google Chat has undergone a significant revamp to compete with platforms like Microsoft Teams and Slack. The most notable feature is the integration of Duet AI, which offers real-time collaboration, insights, and proactive suggestions across Google Workspace apps. The AI can search across Gmail and Drive messages and files, summarize shared documents, and provide recaps of missed conversations.

Aparna Pappu, GM and Vice President of Google Workspace, shared in the official announcement that Duet AI acts as a “powerful collaboration partner” and has been tested by thousands of companies and over a million trusted testers. The AI tool aims to reduce the workload on users, allowing them to focus on essential tasks. For instance, a financial analyst can prompt Duet AI to create a summary presentation of Q3 performance, sourcing relevant content from Drive and Gmail. Additionally, Duet AI can generate meeting summaries, capture notes, and even attend meetings on a user’s behalf, ensuring they receive a recap.

Google emphasizes user privacy and security, ensuring that interactions with Duet AI remain private. Google does not use user data to train its models without explicit permission.
