Microsoft Edge Updates Search Features with Smart Find, Match, and Find on Page

Microsoft Edge is introducing a new AI-powered feature called Smart Find that will make searching for words or phrases on webpages easier.

Microsoft Edge is set to enhance its search capabilities with the introduction of the Smart Find feature. This AI-powered tool aims to streamline the search process on webpages, even when users input misspelled words or phrases. The feature will suggest related matches, allowing users to quickly locate the desired word or phrase by selecting the suggested link.

According to the recently updated Microsoft 365 roadmap, the Smart Find feature is designed to make searching for words or phrases on a webpage more user-friendly. “Even if you misspell a word in your search query, we'll suggest related matches and words making it effortless to find what you're looking for. When you search, simply select the suggested link to quickly locate the desired word or phrase,” the roadmap states.

Beyond the Smart Find tool, is also introducing a feature called Match. This allows users to match whole words and accented characters when using Find Filters. Users can activate this by selecting “Show find options” and then toggling the Match case option.

Another notable update is the ability to use the “Find on Page” function in the Edge sidebar. This updated version will display the entire sentence containing the user's search query, rather than just highlighting the specific word or phrase.

has announced that the new AI features, including Smart Find, will start rolling out in September 2023. Those eager to try out these features ahead of the general release can download versions of Edge Beta, Dev, or Canary from the official Edge Insider website. However, it's worth noting that the Smart Find feature is currently exclusive to Microsoft Edge on Windows, with no support for Linux or macOS.

Microsoft Edge 116 Stable Release

Just this week, Microsoft rolled out the latest stable version of the Edge browser, bringing it to version 116. It brings notable features such as Microsoft Edge for Business and the option to attach the Microsoft Edge sidebar to the Windows desktop.

The new Edge for Business is not an entirely new version of the browser. Instead, it's a mode within the current Edge version tailored for business users, emphasizing enterprise-level security. When employees log in using their Entra ID account, they are automatically directed to Edge for Business.

Another feature in the 116 stable edition is the ability for users to attach the Edge sidebar directly to their Windows 11 and Windows 10 desktop. By selecting a “popout” icon near the sidebar's base in the browser, users can opt for this feature.
