Microsoft made most of its major Xbox announcements at E3 back in June. However, the company still had something to discuss at the Gamescom show in Germany. The Xbox team announced that the Xbox Game Preview program is coming to Windows 10.
The company says that the preview program will come to the Windows 10 desktop platform later in 2016. Xbox One users have been able to access the Game Preview program since last summer. The services lets gamers access titles that are still in development.
It is similar in concept to Microsoft's Windows Insider Program. Members of the Xbox Game Preview service can buy games before they are launched. In exchange for this earlier access, Microsoft wants feedback to help improve the title before it reaches consumers.
Microsoft has not yet confirmed what the service will be called on Windows 10, but the company has named the first title. The first preview game will be Everspace by Rockfish Games. The single-plater space action game was developed after a successful Kickstarter campaign raised €420,252 last September.
The announcement is likely to be Microsoft's biggest reveal at Gamescom, which is currently underway. Customers looking to get the new Xbox One S now have a good opportunity. Microsoft has announced special bundles of its new console in the UK with FIFA 17 and a month of EA Access.
Growing the Xbox Platform
As we revealed last week, Microsoft's recent strategies with the Xbox One have been paying off. Through July, the device was the best-selling console in the US, beating the long-time grip held by Sony's PS4.
The current Xbox One S is Microsoft's newest console, replacing the original Xbox One that launched in 2013. The company also has plans for a full-4K variant of the device known as Project Scorpio. That super console should be arriving during 2017.
