Samsung’s Surface Pro 4 Rivalling Galaxy TabPro S Gold Edition Launched

The Galaxy TabPro S Gold Edition comes with a nice new colorway and double the memory and storage of the original TabPro S.

We are fans of 's Galaxy TabPro S laptop/tablet . Sure, 's 4 is better, but the TabPro S presents a compelling alternative. Samsung is now making its product even more enticing with a new version. The TabPro S Gold Edition comes with some boosted specs compared to the original version.

As the name suggests, the device also scores a nice gold finish. This color is not always as classy as companies would believe, but the TabPro S Gold Edition looks very good. Samsung knows a thing or two about making an aesthetically pleasing product, even the ones that explode in your pocket.

The real news here is that the TabPro S is now more powerful. The Gold Edition has doubled the memory from 4GB of RAM to 8GB of RAM. The storage has been boosted up to 256GM in solid state form.

Doubling the RAM is important. While we have been impressed by the TabPro S, its lack of performance was once of its poorest aspects. It's good that Samsung has addressed this and splashed a nice new color on its device to boot.

In terms of other specs, they remain unchanged. That means a 12-inch Super AMOLED display with 2,160 x 1,440 Quad HD resolution. Under the hood is an 6th generation dual-core Core M processor clocked at 2.2GHz. The device is available in Wi-Fi and LTE variants.

To get the boosted Gold Edition, you will have to fork out $200 more than the original for a $999 sticker price. That puts the product right into territory. Weighing both up, we still think Microsoft's device is the better option.

TabPro S 2

It is also worth considering that the Galaxy TabPro S Gold Edition is an incremental stop gap. We reported in August that Samsung is already working up on the TabPro S 2.

As you would expect, Samsung will upgrade the specs with the release of the Galaxy Tab Pro S2. The device will come in four different options, probably covering various storage and connectivity configurations. Elsewhere there will be an Intel Core M series processor and a 12-inch display with Quad HD resolution and Samsung's Super AMOLED technology.
