Google Fi Debuts $35 Unlimited Plan, Boosts Data on Other Tiers for 10th Anniversary

Google Fi Wireless has unveiled its new Unlimited Essentials plan for $35/month and boosted data on its Standard and Premium tiers for its 10th anniversary.

Google Fi Wireless is marking its tenth year by introducing its most affordable unlimited plan to date and enhancing its existing unlimited tiers with more high-speed data. The changes from the mobile service operator, which started as Project Fi 2015, also include expanded international 5G support and new connectivity options for secondary devices.

A New Entry Point and Revamped Unlimited Tiers

The headline addition is the new Unlimited Essentials plan. At $35 per month for a single line (plus taxes/fees), it represents Fi’s lowest price point for unlimited service, undercutting the previous base unlimited tier by $15 per month for one line. This plan provides unlimited domestic talk, text, and data, with speeds reduced after 30GB of high-speed usage each month.

Google confirmed it includes smartwatch connectivity and safety features like the included VPN service, mirroring higher tiers, though video streaming may be limited to 480p.

Alongside this new entry-level option, Google Fi Wireless has renamed and enhanced its other unlimited offerings. The previous Simply Unlimited plan ($50/month/line) is now called Unlimited Standard, gaining a boost in high-speed data from 35GB to 50GB and a fivefold increase in hotspot data, from 5GB to 25GB.

The former Unlimited Plus plan ($65/month/line) becomes Unlimited Premium, doubling its high-speed data cap from 50GB to 100GB per person. This top tier now includes a 50GB allowance for high-speed hotspot tethering, confirmed by 9to5Google to be a separate bucket from the main 100GB pool.

It retains its other benefits, including data-only SIM/eSIM support for tablets/laptops, data usage in over 200 international locations, six months of YouTube Premium, and 100GB of Google One storage. These updates arrive as Fi faces increased competition from other MVNOs, potentially addressing prior criticisms about plan value.

Connectivity Improvements and iPhone Parity

Addressing multi-device usage, Google Fi Wireless now supports data-only eSIMs. This allows customers on the Unlimited Premium or the pay-per-gigabyte Flexible plans (which remains unchanged in this update) to connect compatible secondary devices like tablets and laptops, including newer iPads, without needing a physical SIM card.

This is a new capability, resolving previous limitations. Users can add up to four data-only SIMs/eSIMs per account, with data usage counting towards the primary line’s monthly allowance.

International travelers also benefit from updates. Google Fi Wireless is expanding its international 5G coverage to over 92 destinations for Unlimited Premium and Flexible plan users. This represents a significant increase from the 39 countries covered after the 2022 expansion.

Notably, this high-speed international access is now available for iPhone users in addition to Android phones. While iPhone hotspot tethering isn’t entirely new on Fi (added in 2022 for some plans), the data cap increases on the Standard plan make it more practical. For iPhone users generally, Google also mentioned that native voicemail access directly within the iOS Phone app is coming “in the coming weeks,” eliminating the need to check messages via the Fi app.

Anniversary Promotions

To commemorate the ten-year milestone, Google Fi Wireless is running limited-time promotions. New customers can acquire a Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel Watch 3 combination through a deal involving a $300 instant discount on the phone plus $699 back via 24 monthly bill credits, and a separate promo code for the watch yielding $100 off instantly plus $349 back via 24 monthly credits.

The phone promotion requires activation by April 29th, 2025, and the watch code must be redeemed by May 13th, 2025. Existing Fi subscribers have separate, exclusive instant rebate offers available for the Pixel 9 series via their account pages. All Google Fi plans continue to run on the T-Mobile network in the US and include standard features like spam call blocking and the included VPN service.
