Nvidia’s New GPU Driver Unlocks DLSS 4 Upgrades and Smooth Motion AI

Nvidia has released its Game Ready 572.16 driver, adding DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation, Smooth Motion AI, and Reflex 2 to enhance gaming performance on RTX 50 series GPUs.

Nvidia has released its GeForce Game Ready 572.16 driver, bringing major enhancements to DLSS 4, including Multi-Frame Generation, DLSS Overrides, and Smooth Motion AI.

The update, arriving after Nvidia’s recent RTX 5090 and 5080 launch at CES 2025, extends AI-powered performance upgrades to over 75 games and applications while also refining RTX Video Super Resolution and Nvidia Reflex 2.

With these features, Nvidia continues expanding AI-driven rendering techniques that promise to boost frame rates, reduce latency, and improve visual clarity across supported titles.

The new driver also introduces DLSS 4 Overrides, a long-requested feature that allows users to force the latest DLSS version in compatible games without waiting for developer patches.

DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation and Overrides Expand AI-Driven Performance

DLSS 4 represents a substantial update to Nvidia’s AI-powered rendering, utilizing Multi-Frame Generation to generate up to three additional frames per traditionally rendered frame.

This approach builds upon previous Frame Generation models, multiplying performance by up to 8X on RTX 50 series GPUs.

As part of this update, DLSS 4 Overrides now allow users to manually select and apply the latest DLSS versions, ensuring that older titles benefit from Nvidia’s most advanced transformer-based AI models.

The feature is currently available in over 75 supported games and applications, including Cyberpunk 2077, Alan Wake 2, Hogwarts Legacy, and Star Wars Outlaws. (see list at the end)

The DLSS Transformer Model Upgrade also brings improvements to DLSS Super Resolution, DLAA, and Ray Reconstruction, with Nvidia confirming that Preset K is the latest AI model available for DLSS Super Resolution. According to the company, this version offers “improved temporal stability, reduced ghosting, and enhanced detail in motion.”

Nvidia Smooth Motion AI Brings Enhanced Fluidity to Gaming

A new feature introduced in this driver update is Nvidia Smooth Motion, an AI-based frame interpolation technology that enhances perceived frame rates by inferring an additional frame between two rendered frames.

While it shares similarities with Frame Generation, Smooth Motion works even in games that do not natively support DLSS 4.

Smooth Motion is exclusive to RTX 50 series GPUs and can be applied to DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 games. Nvidia describes it as a way to “double the perceived frame rate” and improve gameplay fluidity in titles running at lower base frame rates.

Reflex 2 Enhancements and Competitive Gaming Optimizations

Nvidia Reflex 2, which was introduced at CES 2025, brings predictive rendering via Frame Warp, reducing input lag by up to 75%. Nvidia showcased Reflex 2’s capabilities in The Finals, where it cut system latency from 56ms to just 14ms on an RTX 5070.

Reflex 2 also benefits esports players by ensuring “every player action taken in a video game goes through a complex pipeline before being rendered on-screen, with each step introducing latency,” according to Nvidia.

RTX Video Super Resolution Receives Major Efficiency Boost

The RTX Video Super Resolution (VSR) feature has also been updated in this driver, delivering 30% lower GPU resource usage at its highest quality settings.

This optimization enables more RTX GPUs to activate VSR while running other intensive applications. Additionally, VSR now supports HDR video upscaling, allowing lower-resolution HDR content to be automatically upscaled to the monitor’s native resolution.

The feature is available via the Nvidia App, where users can control Super Resolution quality levels and adjust GPU utilization settings.

RTX 50 Series and AI-Enhanced Gaming Evolution

These updates arrive as Nvidia’s RTX 50 series Blackwell GPUs hit the market, introducing features like DLSS 4, Neural Texture Compression, and 8K gaming support. The RTX 5090 and 5080 offer expanded tensor core performance, enabling real-time AI computations that accelerate gaming, rendering, and content creation.

DLSS 4 is now officially supported in over 75 games at launch, including Redfall, Mortal Online 2, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. As new updates roll out, more developers are expected to integrate DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation, leveraging Nvidia’s latest AI transformer models.
