OpenAI Unveils $200 ChatGPT Pro Plan with Full o1 Reasoning and Unlimited GPT-4o

OpenAI Unveils $200 ChatGPT Pro Plan with Full o1 Reasoning and Unlimited GPT-4o usage.

-

OpenAI has unveiled ChatGPT Pro, a new premium subscription tier priced at $200 per month, aimed at professionals and enterprises seeking advanced AI capabilities for high-demand workflows.

This announcement confirms previous leaks that hinted at a premium plan and marks the official release of OpenAI’s o1 reasoning model from preview.

The new ChatGPT Pro tier offers exclusive features including unlimited access to advanced AI models such as GPT-4o, o1, and o1-mini, as well as the full version of the o1 reasoning model, previously code-named “Strawberry.”

Initially launched in a limited preview in September, o1 is now available to ChatGPT Plus and Team users immediately, while Enterprise and Edu users will gain access next week.

ChatGPT Pro subscribers will also benefit from an exclusive version of the o1 model called “o1 pro mode,” which utilizes more computational power to provide enhanced reasoning capabilities and more reliable answers for the most challenging problems.

The company has positioned the Pro plan as a comprehensive solution for researchers, engineers, and other individuals in industries such as programming, data analysis, and customer service, featuring additional tools like Advanced Voice Mode for natural conversational interactions and OpenAI’s Canvas interface for direct modification of AI-generated code.

ChatGPT Pro Features

The new Pro tier includes all features previously hinted at in leaked images and more. Subscribers gain access to:

  • Unlimited Access to o1, o1-mini, and GPT-4o: Full, unrestricted usage of OpenAI’s most advanced reasoning models, designed to handle complex queries, including improved performance in coding, math, and image-based reasoning.

  • o1 Pro Mode: An exclusive version of the o1 model that “thinks harder” by using more computational power to solve difficult problems. External evaluations indicate that o1 pro mode delivers more reliable, accurate, and comprehensive responses, outperforming o1-preview and standard o1 across challenging benchmarks like competition math, coding challenges, and PhD-level science questions.

  • Advanced Voice Mode: Natural, human-like conversational interaction, ideal for scenarios requiring advanced dialogue capabilities.

  • Canvas Interface: OpenAI’s developer-friendly tool allowing direct modification of AI-generated code, particularly useful for programming professionals.

OpenAI has also announced the continuation of its more affordable Plus tier, available at $20 per month. Plus subscribers will have early access to new features and all models, except for the high-performance o1 pro version available exclusively to Pro users.

Evaluation and Benchmark Results

ChatGPT Pro’s o1 pro mode demonstrates enhanced performance on challenging machine learning benchmarks, significantly improving reliability in areas such as competition math (AIME 2024), competition code (Codeforces), and PhD-level science questions (GPQA Diamond).

According to OpenAI, external testers highlighted improved accuracy and consistency, with o1 pro mode achieving better pass rates compared to earlier versions.

  • Competition Math (AIME 2024): o1 pro mode achieves an 86% pass@1 accuracy compared to 50% for o1-preview.

  • Competition Code (Codeforces): o1 pro mode reaches a 90% pass@1 percentile compared to 62% for o1-preview.

  • PhD-Level Science Questions (GPQA Diamond): o1 pro mode scores 79% pass@1 accuracy, outperforming o1-preview at 74%.

In a stricter evaluation setting (“4/4 reliability”), o1 pro mode also shows a significant advantage in providing consistently correct answers across multiple attempts, further highlighting its robustness

Looking Forward

OpenAI has indicated plans to further expand ChatGPT’s capabilities, including adding support for web browsing and file uploads, though no timeline has been provided for these upcoming features. Additionally, the company will continue to enhance the Pro plan by adding more compute-intensive productivity features over time.

Todays launch is part of OpenAI’s “12 Days of Shipmas,” a period of rapid feature rollouts that includes the release of new tools, models, and product demos. In addition to ChatGPT Pro, OpenAI is expected to unveil the long-anticipated text-to-video AI tool “Sora” as well as other updates over the coming days.

The company highlighted that the latest iteration of the o1 model is significantly faster, more accurate, and better suited for both coding and mathematical tasks compared to its preview version. It also boasts improved image-based reasoning and has been optimized for conciseness, leading to quicker response times.
