Microsoft has strongly denied allegations that its Office 365 tools collect customer data for artificial intelligence (AI) training. Responding to viral claims about its Connected Experiences feature, the company reaffirmed that no proprietary user content is utilized in training large language models (LLMs).

In the M365 apps, we do not use customer data to train LLMs,” Microsoft stated in a public response aimed at dispelling privacy concerns. The company emphasized that Connected Experiences is designed solely to enable features like co-authoring and intelligent design recommendations, not to store or analyze user content for AI development.
 

The allegations, which gained traction after an X user claimed Microsoft’s default privacy settings could expose sensitive data, have reignited debates about corporate transparency in AI practices. Critics pointed to the feature’s opt-out mechanism as a potential risk, especially for users unaware of its settings.
