Anthropic’s response to growing safety concerns is outlined in its updated Responsible Scaling Policy (RSP), revised in October 2024. The policy introduces Capability Thresholds, which trigger added safety protocols as AI models demonstrate higher-risk capabilities. These measures are overseen by the Responsible Scaling Officer, who has the power to pause deployments if necessary safeguards are lacking. The RSP underscores Anthropic’s commitment to maintaining control over the risks associated with powerful AI models.

Claude AI Models Enter U.S. Defense and Intelligence

Through strategic partnerships with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Palantir Technologies, Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 model is currently being deployed in U.S. defense operations. Claude’s integration into Palantir’s AI Platform (AIP), running on AWS’s secure Impact Level 6 (IL6) cloud infrastructure, supports critical national security tasks by enhancing data processing and analysis capabilities.

Kate Earle Jensen from Anthropic emphasized that the initiative aims to streamline complex data workflows for intelligence purposes. This collaboration reflects a broader industry trend where private tech firms collaborate with government agencies to augment national defense.
