Adobe has revealed several new tools based on artificial intelligence (AI), aiming to make creative processes smoother and faster for users. These tools are being developed as part of Adobe’s “Sneaks” program and were highlighted at the MAX 2024 conference, which showcases experimental projects.
Collectively known as Project Concept, the tools tie into Adobe’s broader plans to integrate AI across its products. Though they aren’t commercially available yet, the tools hint at major improvements to Adobe’s Creative Cloud suite.
One such tool, Project Scenic, looks to give users more control over generating images, with a focus on 3D scene creation. Unlike other generative AI tools, Scenic lets you physically manipulate objects within the generated scene, making adjustments to their position and even shifting the camera angle. This transforms what is traditionally a 2D medium by incorporating a 3D environment.
Animating Text and Graphics with AI
Another tool called Project Motion makes animating basic graphics easier for creators. This feature is divided into two steps: First, it helps users add movement to text or static images with minimal knowledge of animation. Then, the second step lets creators use simple text descriptions or reference images to change elements of the video, adding things like textures, backgrounds, or colors automatically.
The tool seems especially useful for people who may not have advanced animation skills but still want to incorporate motion graphics into their projects. By allowing descriptions to drive the visual outcome, it simplifies tasks that otherwise would require more in-depth software knowledge.
No More Distracting Backgrounds in Photos or Videos
Perhaps one of the more impressive sneak peeks was Project Clean Machine, which promises to remove unwanted objects from images and videos without breaking a sweat. Imagine a photo or video where a person walks into the shot, or a flash of light ruins an otherwise perfect scene.
The tool automatically detects those unwanted elements and makes them disappear while keeping the rest of the image intact. For example, Clean Machine can remove the bright flash from fireworks in a video while preserving the lighting consistency. This kind of automated cleanup could save hours of editing time for video creators and photographers alike.
More Experiments in Store
But Adobe didn’t stop there. Several other AI-driven projects were showcased, including Project Hi-Fi, which lets you capture your screen and generate AI-enhanced images from whatever content is visible. This brings real-time image creation into play and could be a useful tool for concept artists.
Additionally, Project Remix A Lot was demonstrated as a feature that turns rough sketches into detailed, finished designs. By using another image as a reference, it lets users refine their drawings while keeping the original style consistent throughout the process.
On the other hand, Project Perfect Blend flips the focus of most AI tools by helping to add people and objects into existing images rather than just removing them. Once a new object is added, you can adjust shadows and lighting so that everything looks like it belongs together naturally. This could be an interesting tool for people who want to blend photos and generate complex composites without too much manual work.
Adobe Project Neo is an innovative web-based design tool that revolutionizes the creation of dimensional designs, graphics, and illustrations. Introduced as a beta version, it aims to simplify the process of adding depth and dimension to various design elements such as logos, brand icons, infographics, and illustrations. Project Neo leverages Adobe’s Firefly AI models to enable generative design features. This allows users to quickly create and manipulate 3D shapes, textures, and lighting effects using AI.
The final notable tool, Project Turntable, introduces the ability to rotate 2D vector art in 3D space. This feature gives artists the chance to spin their 2D artwork as if it were a 3D object, all while maintaining the appearance of the original 2D image. It’s a simple tool with a lot of potential for motion graphics or video projects.
AI Features In Major Adobe Services
It has been a busy few days at Adobe Max 2024, mostly focusing on AI integration. The company is expanding Firefly, including video enhancements in Premiere Pro. Generative Extend allows users to extend or modify video clips, fixing short clips or adjusting video frames.
Adobe also brings AI-powered video generation to the web. The Text-to-Video and Image-to-Video tools are accessible via the Firefly web app and allow users to create short video clips from text descriptions or images.
Photoshop and Illustrator are also getting AI upgrades. Photoshop’s innovative “Distraction Removal” feature, an enhancement of the existing Remove Tool, empowers users to effortlessly eliminate unwanted elements from their images. Firefly’s improved model enhances Photoshop’s Generative Fill, Expand, Generate Background, and Generate Similar features, offering more powerful creative options.
Adobe has introduced GenStudio for Performance Marketing, a novel tool designed to revolutionize the process of ad creation for brands. Leveraging the power of artificial intelligence, GenStudio streamlines the creation of customized marketing materials, addressing the growing demand for personalized content in today’s rapidly changing marketing landscape.
