California-based tech startup Groq Inc. is collaborating with oil giant, Aramco, to create a major data facility in Saudi Arabia. The venture aims to establish a central hub for AI activities across the Middle East, Africa, and India.

Plans for Massive AI Infrastructure

Groq is an American artificial intelligence company that specializes in designing and manufacturing hardware and software solutions for AI applications. Their primary focus is on creating high-performance AI accelerators, particularly for tasks involving natural language processing and computer vision.

Groq is tasked with leading the creation of what's touted to become the largest AI inferencing hub globally. In its first phase, the project involves deploying 19,000 language processing units, with financial backing from Aramco.

According to Groq's CEO, Jonathan Ross, the project is expected to attract a “nine-figure” investment. The goal is to have the center fully functional by late 2024, eventually expanding to support up to 200,000 processing units.
