OpenAI has rolled out an update to its ChatGPT application on macOS, now including the “Memory” feature for users in Europe and South Korea. The enhancement enables the chatbot to retain user-specific data, resulting in more customized interactions. By understanding information such as user names and preferred formats for various tasks, the feature aims to make user interactions smoother and more relevant.
Tailoring User Experience
The new Memory function allows users to control and customize the data stored by ChatGPT. Users can add or delete specific details, making the chatbot's responses more aligned with their preferences. For instance, users can set ChatGPT to remember personal preferences like bullet-point formats for meeting notes or details about their pets. Initially turned off, the feature can be activated in the app settings.
To use the Memory feature, users must update their ChatGPT app to the latest version. Once the update is installed, the feature can be enabled by going to the profile icon, selecting “Settings,” then “Personalization,” and switching on the “Memory” option. The process allows ChatGPT to recall user-specific details to better assist with tasks.
Users can manage their stored information through the “Manage” button, providing options to view or delete stored data, including a “Clear ChatGPT's memory” option for removing all saved data at once.
OpenAI's Memory feature update enhances the ChatGPT experience for macOS users in Europe and South Korea by bringing more personalized assistance. It reflects OpenAI's goal to improve the functionality of its AI solutions and broadens their usability across different demographics and regions.
Other ChatGPT Updates
Last month, OpenAI enhanced its GPT-4o model to be better at multi-step reasoning. The enhancement significantly improves the clarity and comprehensiveness of the chatbot's responses. Users have observed that ChatGPT now provides more detailed explanations, offering deeper insights into its underlying thought processes. The notable advancement has generated widespread discussion on social media, with many users acknowledging the substantial improvements.
Another significant update to GPT-4o is its newly acquired ability to generate high-quality images directly from text prompts. This innovative feature eliminates the necessity for the previously utilized DALL-E 3 diffusion-based model, resulting in a more efficient and accurate image generation process. The model's enhanced interpretation of text prompts now enables it to produce more realistic and visually appealing outputs.
