The upcoming iOS 18.2 beta version will incorporate new AI-powered tools designed for generating images. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, in his Power On newsletter, provided an early look at these features named Image Playground and Genmoji.

Image Playground Capabilities

Image Playground includes creative options for generating images in styles such as Animation, Illustration, and Sketch. Unlike tools for photo-realistic images, this platform aims to offer creative visual outputs directly on iOS devices. Users will find it as both a standalone app and within other applications like Messages.

Another addition, Genmoji, lets users create custom emojis based on textual descriptions. The advanced tool offers personalized expressions beyond the standard emojis. Users can also generate Genmojis that resemble friends or family members, using photographs, to be used as inline images, stickers, or reactions.

Apple initially announced the features as part of iOS 18 in general. However, it later became apparent that all the features of Apple Intelligence would not be launching together. Genmoji and the Image Playground missed the intiial iOS 18 launch and will now debut in the 18.2 update.

Delayed Features and Future Updates

Despite the new AI tools, some features won't be part of the initial iOS 18.2 beta launch. The updated Siri with contextual understanding will be introduced in iOS 18.4, anticipated in the spring. Moreover, the integration of ChatGPT into Siri and across the ecosystem is postponed but remains on track for a year-end release, as confirmed by Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Another feature, Apple Intelligence, will debut with iOS 18.1 in October. It will include message summarization, an improved Siri, and ChatGPT integration, pointing to a comprehensive update in the fall.

Upcoming Event and Product Launches

Apple's “Glowtime” event, scheduled for September 9, will showcase the new iPhone 16 series. The event will be available for live streaming on YouTube and will highlight the latest hardware advancements, including the capability of capturing 4K videos at 120 frames per second.

Set for an October release, the iOS 18.2 beta brings new like Image Playground and Genmoji, signifying Apple's growing incorporation of AI-driven features to amplify user creativity and customization.
