ElevenLabs has rolled out a new Reader App across iOS and Android platforms, designed to deliver a voice experience that closely mimics natural speech patterns. The AI application accommodates 32 languages, aiming to make text-to-speech technology broadly accessible.
Variety of Text Sources
Preloaded with numerous texts, including stories like “Cinderella” and “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes,” the app offers diverse reading material. Users can upload their own texts via multiple methods from the main screen, such as writing their own text, pasting a link, importing a file, or scanning documents. Supported formats include EPUB, PDF, and TXT, and the app's OCR capability can read text from image-based PDFs.
Devices need to run Android 7.0 or later to use the app. The Reader tool is incompatible with handsets that have unlocked bootloaders or root access, due to security protocols. Extensive use limitations are set in place, such as barring the download, export, or commercial use of audio content generated by the app.
Affordable Audiobook Solution
Audiobook fans will find this app a budget-friendly option, especially for public domain literature. A wealth of free public domain books is available through sources like Project Gutenberg and Standard Ebooks, providing ample reading material without additional cost.
Users can listen to any book, article, PDF, or text on the move with the help of an extensive selection of high-quality AI voices. This aims to offer a more engaging, human-like listening experience compared to standard text-to-speech services.
Available for free, the ElevenLabs Reader App aims to serve a wide range of users. This release marks an effort to democratize AI-based audio experiences, making them intuitive and widely accessible.
ElevenLabs Tools and Updates
In May, ElevenLabs introduced an AI model that converts text into song lyrics, enhancing the integration of artificial intelligence with music creation. The model is designed to assist artists and producers and encourage user participation in music creation. A few weeks later, an AI-driven tool that transforms text into sound effects followed.
Also that month, ElevenLabs entered into agreements with the estates of famous deceased celebrities to utilize their voices for audiobook narration. Voices of notable figures like Judy Garland, James Dean, and Burt Reynolds will be a part of the new Reader app, an AI platform converting various text formats into voice-overs.
