Microsoft Teams Integrates Multiple Accounts in One Unified Application

The unified Microsoft Teams update simplifies the user experience by consolidating functionalities into a single app.

-

has launched a unified Microsoft Teams application that brings together personal, work, and education accounts. The update, available on both Windows and Mac, intends to simplify the user experience by consolidating functionalities into a single app. Microsoft initially introduced and previewed the unified app in March, as part of a wider test build.

Streamlined Interface and Experience

After undergoing extensive testing, the refreshed Microsoft Teams app presents an improved user interface. Amit Fulay, Microsoft's Vice President of Product, emphasized that the new version permits users to participate in meetings as guests without mandatory sign-ins. The addition is particularly useful for professionals and students needing flexible connection options.

One of the standout features is the ability to handle personal and work accounts within the same app. Previously, managing distinct accounts required separate installations of Teams, causing inconvenience. The update also includes enhanced notification management to help users identify the source of alerts with ease.

Automatic Rollout and Easy Download

Existing Teams users on Windows or Mac will receive the update automatically. New users can download the app from the official Microsoft website. The new setup aims to streamline account management and improve the overall usability of Teams.

Microsoft's endeavor to support multiple accounts in Teams has been a challenging process. Originally, Windows 11 integrated Teams into the taskbar but only supported personal accounts. This partial integration was removed later, requiring separate installations of the Teams app. The unified app addresses these past issues and offers a seamless solution.

Accessibility Across Platforms

The updated Teams app is now compatible with , , and . Users can add or switch accounts by clicking on their profile picture in the app's upper-right corner. Joining meetings as guests without signing in simplifies interactions, especially for business clients and educational sessions.

The app makes it easy to collaborate with anyone at no cost using a personal email address. For enterprise settings, existing sign-in restrictions set by administrators are respected. The new desktop app supports all account types, alongside the existing mobile versions for and Apple.
