Microsoft Updates Clipchamp with AI Video Editing Tools

Microsoft's enhancements for Clipchamp include AI-powered background removal and noise suppression tools.

-

has rolled out AI-based capabilities in Clipchamp, aiming to elevate the experience by introducing background removal and noise suppression functions. The tools are now available for users on Personal and Work accounts, according to the Microsoft 365 Insider blog.

Streamlining Editing with Background Removal

The new background removal tool in simplifies editing by allowing users to delete any background within the editor. By right-clicking on an image and selecting “Remove Background,” users can substitute the existing background with a different video or image.

Even images with foreground objects can be modified, enabling the creation of personalized stickers. This functionality is intended to make the editing process less complicated, helping users to create professional-looking content effortlessly.

Enhancing Audio with Noise Suppression

The addition of noise suppression is focused on enhancing audio by minimizing unwanted background sounds in video or audio tracks. It is particularly beneficial for recordings made in noisy settings, such as environments with traffic or children.

Users can activate this feature by accessing the Audio tab and selecting the “Noise suppression” option. The editor then works to reduce or remove background noise automatically, improving the overall audio quality of the content. Importantly, this feature is accessible without the need for high-end microphones or additional software.

Upcoming Features and Educational Accounts

Currently, these features are accessible for Personal and Work accounts, with no specific timeline for Educational accounts. Microsoft had previously announced that Clipchamp would be included for Educational subscribers starting in July.

Additionally, a significant update planned for September will introduce support to Clipchamp. Copilot will assist users in creating video projects by handling tasks such as writing scripts, sourcing stock footage, and assembling projects with music, voiceover, text overlays, and transitions based on text prompts.

Clipchamp, which Microsoft acquired in September 2021, is a web-based video creation and editing tool that offers a range of features, such as templates, filters, transitions, text, audio, and animations. The app has since become the main video editing tool on Windows. 11
