Microsoft has rolled out a new feature on Xbox consoles, allowing users to view Discord streams straight from their console's dashboard. This initiative aims to create a seamless and cohesive experience for gamers who use both Xbox and Discord.
Early Access for Xbox Insiders
Currently, the feature is accessible to Xbox Insiders, granting the ability to watch game streams from various devices such as PCs, mobile phones, and other Xbox consoles. Discord streams can be accessed during voice calls and through the “happening now” section on the Xbox dashboard, simplifying the process of joining and watching.
Streams are now embedded directly within the Xbox dashboard, giving users the capability to adjust volume and mute streams without leaving the Xbox environment. The streams are displayed in full-screen mode but maintain native Xbox interface elements, ensuring a consistent user experience.
Enhanced Call Functionality
Apart from streaming, the collaboration between Microsoft and Discord includes improved features for direct calls. Users can now make private calls without joining server-specific calls, and they can see more detailed info about their Discord friends on Xbox, such as mutual servers, friends, and Xbox gamertags.
In 2022, Microsoft announced a partnership with Discord to bring the latter's massively popular voice chat product to Xbox consoles. In September the integration went live, but is for some reason a complex process for something that should be simple. Players need to connect their Xbox (Microsoft) account with their Discord account. Last year, the companies announced their intention to add game streaming.
To watch friends' streams, users can navigate to the member list within their voice channel, select the streaming profile, and choose “Watch Stream.” The stream will then be displayed in full-screen mode.
