Instagram Users Can Now Create Custom Chatbots Through Meta’s AI Studio

Meta's AI Studio is now available, giving Instagram creators the ability to create custom AI chatbots for personalized engagement.

Meta has officially launched AI Studio, a toolset designed to aid Instagram creators in developing AI-driven personas to engage with their followers. With the feature, it becomes easier to manage the extensive number of direct messages creators receive by providing an efficient method for audience interaction.

AI Personas for Enhanced Interaction

AI Studio gives creators the ability to develop chatbots that respond to followers’ messages. These AI chatbots use data from past interactions, captions, and video transcripts to generate personalized replies. Meta explains that these AI personas act as an “extension” of the creators, aiming to improve the engagement experience for fans.

Initial trials of AI Studio were conducted with a select group of prominent Instagram users and introduced during Meta’s Connect event. The feature is now accessible to a wider array of creators in the United States. Mark Zuckerberg anticipates that “hundreds of millions” of these AI personas will eventually populate Meta’s platforms.

User-Created AI Characters

Meta is broadening the scope beyond just creators, allowing all Instagram users to design custom AI characters. These AI entities can discuss specific topics, create memes, or provide advice. Powered by Meta’s Llama 3.1 model, users can share their AI creations and track their usage, though they cannot view others’ interactions with their AI.

Access and Usage Policies

AI Studio can be accessed through ai.meta.com/ai-studio and is also available via the Instagram app, as well as WhatsApp, Messenger, and the web. Users can generate custom AI chatbots for various scenarios, such as role-playing different conversations. However, users are prohibited from representing real individuals other than themselves and from generating content involving historical or religious figures, or anything considered hateful, explicit, or illegal.

Meta has showcased several AI chatbots developed by celebrities, such as a dining recommendation bot by chef Marc Murphy and a photography bot by Angel Barclay. Users can tailor chatbots by providing descriptions, names, images, and specific instructions on how the bot should respond.

In related news, Apple has incorporated new AI-powered features under Apple Intelligence in the iOS 18.1 developer beta. Meanwhile, TikTok has introduced a sound search feature that enables users to find content based on audio clips.
