Samsung has introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 6, unveiling several key improvements to its foldable handset flagship. The device brings wider screens, better hardware specs, and a longer update timeline, aiming to assert its dominance in the foldable sector.
Refined Design and Enhanced Display
The Galaxy Z Fold 6’s biggest design changes include revised display dimensions. The outer screen adopts a 22.1:9 aspect ratio, slightly broader than its predecessor’s 23.1:9. The internal screen shifts to a 20.9:18 aspect ratio, closer to a square layout, enhancing usability and addressing past issues of the narrow outer display.
The device is now more compact and lighter, with folded measurements of 68.1 x 153.5 x 12.1mm and unfolded dimensions of 132.6 x 153.5 x 5.6mm. It weighs 239 grams, which is about 6% less than the Galaxy Z Fold 5. The new model also features an IP48 rating, offering improved water and partial dust resistance.
Advanced Performance and Specifications
Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and 12GB of RAM. Storage options range from 256GB to 1TB. The phone also incorporates a larger vapor chamber for better cooling and a peak brightness of 2,600 nits.
The camera system remains similar to the previous model, with a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide lens, a 10MP 3x telephoto camera, a 10MP front camera, and a 4MP under-display camera. The battery capacity stays at 4,400 mAh.
Software and AI Features
Running on Android 14 and One UI 6.1, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is promised seven years of Android and security updates, paralleling the support offered for the Galaxy S24 series. Samsung has integrated AI features such as translation tools on the outer display and improved S Pen functionality via Smart Select and “Sketch to image.”
Google Gemini is seamlessly integrated, supporting enhanced multi-window operations. Galaxy AI features from earlier models continue to be part of the package, further refining the user experience. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is priced at $1,899, targeting the premium segment of the market.
Samsung Boosts AI Capabilities of its Smartphones
The introduction of the new Fold comes with enhancements to Galaxy AI through the launch of One UI 6.1.1. Samsung is adding new AI features to their phones with One UI 6.1.1, including Portrait Studio for creating artistic portraits and Sketch to Image for adding details to drawings. These features, along with AI-generated wallpapers, now have a clearer watermark to show they were created with AI.
