TCL has launched the Q Class QM89 in the US, a 115-inch smart TV, expanding its offerings in the large-scale home entertainment sector. This new model, priced at $26,999, will be available in the United States and features advanced display technology and smart capabilities. The launch adds to TCL's already robust lineup, which includes three 98-inch models introduced earlier this year.

115-inch Display and Features

The Q Class QM89 is a Quantum Dot Mini-LED TV, boasting an impressive 20,000 dimming zones. This feature, controlled by TCL's proprietary AiPQ ULTRA processor, ensures that the TV delivers exceptionally vivid and life-like imagery. The processor's advanced capabilities allow for the optimization of picture quality, making this TV a suitable choice for various lighting conditions. Furthermore, the Q Class QM89 supports a 120Hz refresh rate, providing smooth and clear visuals for gaming enthusiasts using either console or PC platforms.

In terms of brightness, the TV reaches up to 5,000 nits, coupled with an anti-glare screen to maintain excellent picture quality in well-lit environments. TCL's decision to equip the Q Class QM89 with TV as its operating system enhances the user experience by offering a wide range of streaming services and apps. Additionally, the TV includes support for Google Chromecast and Apple Air Play 2, facilitating easy content sharing from smartphones to the TV screen. For users who prefer over-the-air television, the Q Class QM89 is compatible with the ATSC 3.0 NextGen broadcasting standard.

Expanding the QM8 and QM7 Series

In addition to the QM89, TCL's QM8 series offers models starting at $1,999.99 for a 65-inch size, extending up to the 115-inch model. These TVs feature up to 5,000 dimming zones and are designed to deliver exceptional viewing experiences with their QD-Mini LED technology. The QM7 series, capable of reaching 2,400 nits of peak brightness, includes a variable refresh rate up to 240Hz, enhancing motion clarity for fast-paced content.

TCL has voiced concerns about the industry's casual use of the term “Mini LED,” arguing that it has become diluted without a clear standard. The company emphasizes the importance of the algorithms that control the dimming zones to prevent issues such as crushed blacks, ensuring that the technology remains effective in enhancing picture quality.

Upcoming Releases and Features

The S5 series, known for being 25 percent brighter than its predecessors, features a native 60Hz panel that can be enhanced to 120Hz for gaming. This series also introduces an “enhanced dialog” mode, improving voice clarity. TCL plans to start shipping all new Q-series and S-series TVs soon, aiming to meet the high demand during the upcoming holiday shopping season.
