Microsoft Teams Premium, a new add-on license that enhances the Teams experience with more personalized, intelligent and protected meetings, is rolling out support for AI-based intelligent meeting recaps. This feature will help users capture the key points, actions and decisions from their meetings and share them with relevant stakeholders.
According to a blog post by Microsoft, intelligent meeting recaps will use AI to automatically generate a summary of the meeting, including:
- A transcript of the spoken conversation, with speaker attribution and timestamps
- A list of action items and decisions, extracted from the transcript and chat messages
- A recording of the meeting, with the ability to search and jump to specific moments
- A list of attendees and their roles
- A link to the meeting chat and files
Users will be able to access the meeting recap from the meeting details page in Microsoft Teams or from the Outlook calendar invite. They can also edit the recap, add or remove action items and decisions, and share it with others via email or chat.
Microsoft says that intelligent meeting recaps will help users save time, stay organized and follow up on their meetings more effectively. The feature will also enable more inclusive and accessible meetings, as users will be able to review the transcript and recording at their own pace and language.
Microsoft Teams Premium is Bringing Generative AI to Collaboration
Intelligent meeting recaps are part of the Teams Premium offering. Microsoft Teams Premium became generally available in early February. is a new version of the platform that Microsoft says will provide AI-driven performance that acts like a virtual assistant during a meeting. Microsoft previously discussed how tapping into OpenAI's GPT-3.5 AI model allows Teams to have more control and access in meetings.
In March, Microsoft introduced its Microsoft 365 Copilot, a new AI integration that brings OpenAI's GPT-4 AI engine to the Office ecosystem. It is available in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Viva, and other Office apps to enhance and automize productivity. Microsoft 365 Copilot for Teams is also part of the service, which should become widely available later this year.
Copilot will become an extra member of every meeting, a functioning and interactive participant. Microsoft says the AI will help by summarizing meetings with highlights for key actions and moments.
