In just 20 minutes yesterday, Microsoft potentially changed the future of productivity. During it's the Future of Work with AI event, the company announced Microsoft 365 Copilot. The service brings OpenAI's ChatGPT and GTP-4 AI into Microsoft's productivity apps. Among the announcements was Microsoft 365 Copilot in Viva Engage.
If you want to know more about Microsoft 365 Copilot, you can check out my overview of all yesterday's announcements. Or, you can also read how Copilot is becoming available in the core Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Looking closely at Microsoft 365 Copilot in Viva Engage, Microsoft says the AI will give team leaders conversation starters to connect with their workplace communities. Copilot will find trending topics amongst employees and build conversations from them.
The AI provides suggestions as leaders than create a personalized post on Viva Engage. Furthermore, Copilot will help to find image and to set a tone for the conversation.
“With Copilot, we're also making the Answers experience in Microsoft Viva Engage fast and efficient. Copilot will offer suggested prompts to enhance the quality of the question being asked. As team members engage, Copilot can suggest responses that keep the conversation going, including bringing in related knowledge and experts.”
Viva Engage
Back at its Inspire 2022 event in August, Microsoft announced a new component to its Microsoft Viva service range. Specifically, Viva Engage, which essentially serves as a workplace social platform. Businesses can have communities in Engage that connect their workforce and also provide links between leaders and employees. Yammer was folded into Viva Engage last month.
While the Copilot is useful, the whole point of Viva Engage is for, well, engagement. It kind of misses the point if leaders are not really engaging with employees but rather using AI to find points of engagement. Microsoft does not address this concern at the moment, so it will be interesting to see how Copilot for Viva Engage works in the real world.
