Microsoft has a long-standing partnership with Adobe and the two companies have worked together plenty of times in the past. For the latest collaboration, Microsoft and Adobe are joining forces to bring Adobe Acrobat PDF features to Windows 11 and Windows 10.
“Bringing Adobe and Microsoft closer together is good for productivity and good for customers,” says Jared Spataro, Corporate Vice President, Modern Work & Business Applications at Microsoft. “Adobe’s PDF technology in Microsoft Edge means users will have fast and secure access to critical digital document capabilities.”
According to Microsoft, the integration will give 1.4 billion Windows 11 and 10 users access to Acrobat PDF capabilities. This is good news considering there is no proper native PDF application on Windows.
“PDF is essential for modern business, accelerating productivity in a world where automation and collaboration are more critical than ever,” adds Ashley Still, SVP and GM, Adobe. “By bringing the global standard in PDF experience to Microsoft Edge and the billion-plus Windows users worldwide, Adobe and Microsoft are using our joint heritage and expertise in productivity to take an important step forward in making modern, secure, and connected work and life a reality.”
Microsoft Edge
However, there is a caveat to consider. Microsoft says this integration is only available in Microsoft Edge. Yes, that means this is a little ploy for Microsoft to attract users to its native Windows web browser. If you use Google Chrome, you may not want to make the leap to Edge just to access Acrobat.
Of course, Microsoft wants to challenge Chrome’s dominance. Yesterday, the company announced the integration of OpenAI ChatGPT AI within Bing and Microsoft Edge. The new Bing and Edge now copilot with each other and provide natural language processing responses to web searchers. By making this move, Microsoft is starting a three-pronged war against Google that covers AI, search, and browsers.
