Minecraft Adds Splash Screen Tribute to Technoblade Following the Creator’s Death

Following the death of well-known Minecraft content creator Technoblade, the Minecraft splash screen now has a tribute.

Technoblade has been one of the most endearing and enduring gaming content creators on YouTube in recent years, amassing 13 million subs mostly by playing . Also, Technoblade sadly passed away last week following a battle against cancer. To celebrate the YouTuber, Minecraft is making a bunch of Technoblade-specific changes.

It seems fitting that the game Technoblade – real name Alexander – made his name playing is now honoring following his untimely passing. Alexander was just 23 years old and his death was confirmed by his family last week.

Mojang has now changed the splash page for Minecraft Java Edition to show a pig wearing a golden crown. Technoblade's character in the game was famously a royal pig-man with a crown on its head.

In a tweet last Friday, the 's Minecraft team sent a message reading “We have been trying to find the words, but all of us here at Minecraft are heartbroken over the loss of Technoblade. He meant so much to our community and brought so much joy. He will be missed dearly.”

Technoblade was a part of the major server Dream SMP and was one of the most popular Minecraft content creators online. While he had been fighting cancer for some time, his battle sadly ended recently. In a video posted to YouTube last Thursday, Alexander's father read a message from the streamer.

The message spoke about continuing to create videos while with cancer and the legacy he hoped to leave behind. At the time of writing, the video has over 57 million views. Fellow streamers and YouTubers have sent messages celebrating the life of Technoblade.

While the Twitter account confirms the splash screen and it is definitely viewable in the game, it has not been added with any release notes. In other words, it doesn't seem to be part of any specific build and it is unclear how long the pig with a crown will remain.

It is worth noting the pig is always visible on the same splash screen, but without a crown.
