Spotify is consistently building its feature set and these days is much more than a simple music streaming application. In its latest expansion, Spotify is adding a new Video Podcast section. Announced last week, the tool gives content creators that ability to publish their podcasts in video.
At the moment, the Video Podcasts section is coming to five key markets: the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. Although, Spotify says there is a “plan to roll this out to additional markets in the future.”
The company points out it has been testing Video Podcasts with a subset of content creators. It seems the trial was a success and is now coming to all users in the above markets:
“Since then, we've found that podcasters love having the option to accompany their audio with visual components, and fans love having the opportunity to more deeply connect with the content. So as the audience for this format grows, we're also opening up the Video Podcast capability to more creators, creating a growing catalog of video podcasts.”

Podcasters on the Spotify platform can now use the company's Anchor web platform to upload the video podcasts. There is also a way to revert back to traditional audio podcasts. The company says the video options gives audiences the ability to “get to know their favorite podcast hosts even better, and allow creators to connect with their audiences in a much deeper way”.
“With this latest expansion, we're continuing to make Video Podcasting a great experience for creators—empowering them to reach new global audiences, own how they monetize their content, and interact with fans in new ways,” adds Spotify. “There's a massive opportunity for Video Podcasts on Spotify, and we can't wait to see what creators bring to the table.”
Features available for video content creators include analytics specifically for videos, a Riverside integration that allows remote recording. There is also a Bulk-Replace tool that will replace all current audio podcasts with video versions.
