Chat app giant Telegram is closing out 2021 in the giving mood. The company is rolling out a feature dump to end the year, bringing a bunch of new improvements and abilities.

Leading the charge is the message reactions feature. This is a brand-new tool that allows users respond to texts with emojis. Yes, you’ve seen this in apps like Discord, but Telegram has never been shy about borrowing features from rivals.

To use this feature, double-tap any message to send the thumbs-ap emoji. A single tap brings up the list of more emojis to use. Telegram says the feature is on by default in private chats but admins must enable it in groups and channels.

Elsewhere, there are also changes for users running the app in multiple language. It is now possible to directly translate text in messages. You can do this by heading to Settings > Language and accessing it.

Lastly, Telegram now has a spoiler choice that allows you to hide specific text until a recipient taps on it. No-more spoiling movies from groups members who may not have seen them. Using this feature is easy enough, simply tap and highlight text before choosing the Spoiler format button.

There features are all part of Telegram version 8.4 on Android.

Recent Update

Earlier this month Telegram had another update, one that was focusing on updating privacy. it is now possible to delete messages from a specific date instead of all messages. Furthermore, users can block contacts from forwarding to a group. Also in the update, Telegram is making it easier to connect devices.

As well as privacy-focused controls, the update adds some interesting new features. For example, you can now log into the app via a phone call. Also, anonymous posting in public groups is now available to all users.

Tip of the day: Do you get flooded by notifications from apps and want to disable them completely or just the notification sound? Our tutorial shows you how to do this. As an alternative, you can also configure Windows Focus Assist (Do Not Disturb Mode) and set quiet hours.
