Microsoft Support Pages Suggest Surface Laptop 4 Will Launch Soon

Official support pages show the Surface Laptop 4 will come with AMD and Intel variants. The device could be announced next week.

is widely thought to be working on the Surface Laptop 4, the first generation of the company's first and so far, only laptop. It seems more evidence shows Microsoft's new device is ready to launch soon. Official Microsoft support pages have been found for the Surface Laptop 4, one for AMD and one for Intel.

Both pages were found by Microsoft watcher WalkingCat. The question is, do these pages point to an imminent launch of the Surface Laptop 4? WalkingCat estimates the device will arrive soon, maybe as early as next week.

The support page does not show any details about the laptop. However, we have previously reported Microsoft will provide an AMD variant of the device. A new AMD variant would continue Microsoft's relationship with AMD following the launch of an AMD version of the Surface Laptop 3 two years ago.

We have been charting the likelihood of the company once again embracing AMD for the new model. Microsoft has an ongoing willingness to diversify its chip partnerships. More than just relying on Intel silicon, the company is increasingly working with AMD and the likes of Qualcomm for ARM chips.

Chip Variants

It was originally thought the Surface Laptop 4 will get an AMD Ryzen 5 3590 U. It will be a custom version of the silicon known as the Surface Edition and comes with 12 threads, 5 cores, and a clock speed of 2.20GHz.

However, it now seems that new generation of AMD silicon will not come to the Surface device. Recent reports instead point to 4000 series mobile chips being used in the Laptop 4. For example, the Ryzen 5 4680U and the Ryzen 7 4980U. While that's a generational upgrade on the Surface Laptop 3, it's not bleeding edge.

In terms of the Intel variant, WinFuture recently reported the new laptop will get an 11th generation Core i5 1145G7 and Core i7-1185G7.
