Microsoft Editor on Office Receives New Windows 10 Update

Windows 10 users of Microsoft Word are now getting features for the Microsoft Editor that have been exclusive to the web.

Microsoft Editor is a relatively new spell and grammar checking tool for Office. It made its debut with the launch of Microsoft 365 Personal and Family earlier this year. Initially available in Word, the tool has since become available on other Microsoft Office apps (Outlook) and web browsers.

In some ways, Microsoft Editor is Microsoft’s push against Grammarly. Office users were increasingly turning to tools like Grammarly to expand the built-in editing functions. Editor aims to be a one-stop shop service that offers spelling and grammar suggestions.

In the latest update for the tool, Microsoft Editor is receiving a couple of interesting new abilities. The latest update is now available for users of Microsoft Word on Windows 10. Among the changes are one-click reviews, an improvement to the way the Editor displays suggestions, and an upgraded Editor pane.

Here’s Microsoft’s official release notes:

  • “The ability to view spelling, grammar and other intelligent suggestions with one click- either left or right-click any underlined word. In addition, you can also select an underline word and then press Shift+F10or Alt+Down to display Editor suggestions.
  • A dedicated and simplified view of Editor’s suggestions with the flexibility to display more information if required.
  • An upgraded Editor pane that allows for more contextual and accessible review experience.”

Other Versions

It is worth noting these changes have been available on Microsoft Editor for Word on the web for some time. They are now making their way to the Windows 10 application.

In the summer, Microsoft brought the Editor to Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome as a web extension. As a browser add-on, Editor will make suggestions in 20 languages as you type. It works on websites, emails, and social media. The tool is available as a free version that covers spelling and basic grammar suggestions.

There is no word on whether the new update will come to the browser extension.

Tip of the day:

Is your system drive constantly full and you need to free up space regularly? Try Windows 10 Disk Cleanup in extended mode which goes far beyond the standard procedure. Our tutorial also shows you how to create a desktop shortcut to run this advanced method right from the desktop.
