WhatsApp on Windows 10 Gets Video and Voice Calls

If you use on , you will know the experience is quite limited. For a start, it requires a link with your smartphone WhatsApp application. There is also a reduced feature set, with users only able to send and receive messages, listen to audio, view videos, and send/receive files.

There is no way to make audio and video calls on WhatsApp Desktop. You can probably see where we are going with this, but WhatsApp has announced it is now bringing audio and video call capabilities to its desktop client.

It's worth noting this ability was first announced as “coming soon” two years ago. It's been a long road, but WABetaInfo says the WhatsApp Calls feature is now coming.

According to the report, Voice and Video Calls are in beta. Just like the mobile app, users see the call buttons in the chat header. Clicking these buttons will start a call with the contact the user is in the chat with.

Slow Roll Out

It seems -owned WhatsApp is taking a random approach to the roll out of this feature. Only some people have the feature so far. It's unclear when the release will open wider. It's also unknown when the feature will come to the full release of WhatsApp Desktop.

The desktop version of the popular chat app develops much slower than the mobile app. Although, many features from mobile are available on desktop. This year, WhatsApp has rolled out new features including Dissappearing Messages.

Disappearing Message option allows users to set a timer on to decide how long a message remains visible in the chat.

Once the time elapses the message is deleted. WhatsApp initially said disappearing or self-destructing messages will only come to group chats. Later, the company changed its mind and confirmed it will also come to individual users. However, no timeframe for the launch of the feature was given.
