Microsoft SwiftKey Could Get Forgotten Cloud Clipboard Feature

Microsoft’s Cloud Clipboard allows syncing of content between devices and platforms. It could come to SwiftKey in the coming months.

was once dabbling with a feature known as Cloud Clipboard, which would integrate with its SwiftKey virtual keyboard on . While the feature ultimately never made it to release, it seems Microsoft is willing to reignite the tool.

According to a report, Microsoft is renewing Cloud Clipboard. Hidden the background of SwiftKey is mention of the features. Specifically, the note says “Sync clipboard history to the cloud.”

Cloud Clipboard is a wider concept that supposedly allows users to copy content from Microsoft app or service and past it on another, across platforms and devices. It was originally announced alongside Timeline, separate tool in Win10.

Both features were delayed several times, but while Timeline finally launched, Cloud Clipboard was axed. The last word about the feature came when it was supposed to come in Redstone 5 in 2018, with SwiftKey support included.

While the feature did arrive, support for the virtual keyboard was not included. That now seems to be changing with Microsoft revisiting the clipboard on SwiftKey idea. In fact, it seems the tool may already be baked into the keyboard app.

Microsoft's note reads:

“Copy and Paste text from your other Windows devices. When this is on, Microsoft receives your clipboard data to sync across your Windows devices.”

Expanding SwiftKey

Bringing Cloud Clipboard to SwiftKey would allow users to sync content on the keyboard between Windows 10 and other platforms. In fact, the keyboard is arguably more useful and certainly more popular on mobile devices like Android.

Speaking of Android, back in August the SwiftKey team announced support for the new Android 11 version.
