Oracle Joins Microsoft in Race for TikTok

Oracle has reportedly put together an interesting package to buy some of ByteDance’s TikTok operations, competing with Microsoft.

It is becoming increasingly clear that is not alone in its interest in . Redmond says it is exploring buying TikTok's operations in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. It now seems is also interested in working with on a deal.

According to the Financial Times, Oracle has already held talks with ByteDance, the Chinese owner of TikTok. Sources suggest the company is serious about acquiring the app.

The report says the firm is working with investors in the United States who have previously invested in ByteDance. This could give Oracle an advantage despite many assuming Microsoft led the race to acquire TikTok.

An executive order stops ByteDance from handling any transactions in the United States. This order will come into effect within the next 45 days and could mean TikTok leaves the market in the country.

Microsoft has confirmed it has an interest in buying TikTok's operations in the US, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. So much so, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Trump spoke about the matter and Microsoft says discussions are ongoing. It is through Trump is unimpressed by such a deal.

Last week, the WSJ said Twitter is also looking at the popular video social network.

The situation around TikTok's fate in the US comes as the app continues to stir controversy. Last week we reported on the application taking Android user data and passing it to ByteDance without permission.

TikTok was found to be gathering this information for 15 months and sent it directly to ByteDance.
