Microsoft: Users Cannot Have No Uninstall Option for Microsoft Edge in Windows 10

Microsoft says the new Chromium version of Microsoft Edge that is baked into Windows 10 does not have an uninstall option.

These days, the new Chromium-based Edge is a fully integrated part of the experience. Since the launch of Windows 10 version 2004 in May, Edge started automatic rollout through Windows Update. Previously, the browser was only on manual update since its January launch.

So, is not a part of Windows 10, whether users want to use it or not. Furthermore, Microsoft says it will now allow users to uninstall the browser if it was installed by a Windows System update.

On the Edge support page, Microsoft says no uninstall option is included. It is also worth remembering the legacy Edge experience has been removed from Windows 10. This means the only version of Edge available is the new one. That's good news if you want to use it, but not so much if you want to remove it.

“We want to ensure all windows customers have the latest Microsoft Edge browser for performance, privacy, security, productivity, and support features it offer,” Microsoft says.

“The new version of Microsoft Edge included in a Windows System update, so the option to uninstall it or use the legacy version of Microsoft Edge will no longer be available”.

If you want to reduce Edge's visibility in Windows 10, our tutorial shows you how to do that by removing the browser from background apps.

Last week, Microsoft was forced to issue a quick fix for an Edge bug that causes the browser to crash. This only happens when is the default search and users type into the address bar. Microsoft worked with Google to rollback search to a previous state.
