Leak: Halo Infinite Will Have Free-to-Play Multiplayer and Run at 120 FPS on Xbox Series X

A retailer has leaked information about the upcoming Halo Infinite game, and it seems as though the information is accurate.

Halo Infinite will be one of the triple A game exclusives that will launch alongside the Xbox Series X this year. This week, some details about the game have leaked. Specifically, it seems the title will make the most of the power provided by the series X. Halo Infinite will also look to tap into an area of the market made popular by combat games Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone.

According to information leaked by UK retailer Smyths Toys, Halo Infinite will have a free-to-play multiplayer. In recent years, free-to-play combat multiplayers have become hugely popular. Battleground third-person titles like Fortnite and Battlegrounds, and traditional first-person shooters like Warzone have reached millions of gamers.

Microsoft clearly wants to tap into some of that action. However, it is unclear whether the new Halo multiplayer experience will mimic a battle royale style or not.

Either way, the promotional page leaked by Smyths also shows Halo Infinite will run at 120 FPS. We know the Xbox Series X will be the most powerful console ever made and it seems the new Halo will tap into all of its performance potential.

“The legendary Halo series returns with the most expansive Master Chief campaign yet and a groundbreaking free-to-play multiplayer experience,” the listing says. “Enjoy up to 120 FPS and greatly reduced load times creating seamless gameplay with Xbox Series X.”

Accurate Leak?

While retailers often jump the gun with incorrect information, this leak seems legitimate. It was backed up by Klobrille, an Xbox tipster who has already offered plenty of correct information about Infinite.

343 Industries, the developer that creates the Halo franchise under Microsoft Game Studios, said this week they are working on improving graphics. Early showings of the game have been criticized for poor visuals.

“In many ways we are in agreement here — we do have work to do to address some of these areas and raise the level of fidelity and overall presentation for the final game,” says John Junyszek, a community manager at 343 Industries. “The build used to run the campaign demo was work-in-progress from several weeks ago with a variety of graphical elements and game systems still being finished and polished.”
