Microsoft has announced it is acquiring ADRM Software Inc., a developer of data models. The price paid for the company has been disclosed. However, Microsoft confirmed its will fold ADRM Software into its Microsoft Azure global engineering business.
Taking to LinkedIn to confirm the deal, ADRM CEO Kevin Schofield says Microsoft Azure will combine with ADRM data models to create “the next generation of intelligent data lakes.”
The data lakes created by Microsoft in the future will provide “metadata-rich foundations which can supercharge modern data warehouses, next-level analytics, and AI [artificial intelligence] and ML [machine learning].”
ADRM has been operating for three decades and serves numerous industries and companies across 18 countries. Data models created by the company are used for data warehousing, data lakes, data management, business intelligence, and more.
According to the company, its data models are designed to show relations in data and to allow for better data understanding. The three data model types offered by ADRM will now become part of Microsoft Azure:
- Data Warehouse Model
- Business Area Model
- Enterprise Date Model
Unifying Data Across Businesses
In a blog post to announce the deal, Microsoft also pointed to the development of data lakes. Ravi Krishnaswamy, Microsoft’s corporate vice president for Azure Global Industry, said data lakes can help unify data across businesses.
“Combining comprehensive industry models from ADRM with limitless storage and compute from Azure allows for the creation of the intelligent data lake where data from multiple lines of business can be harmonized together more quickly. Together with Microsoft Azure, these capabilities will be delivered at scale, enabling our customers to accelerate digital progress, and reduce risk in a variety of major initiatives.”
