Microsoft Authenticator on Android Finally Gets Ability to Change Passwords

Following its roll out on iOS in March, the change password tool for Microsoft Authenticator is coming to Android.

Authenticator for is receiving an update to add a much-requested new feature to the tool. Specifically, users can now change their passwords directly in the application. Android users have been waiting a long time for this ability.

Microsoft brought the feature to its Authenticator app on iOS earlier this year. At the time, the company promised it would also come to the Android variant. After a longer than expected delay, the feature is available.

For users who leverage two-factor authentication (2FA) on , this is a welcome addition. When using the Microsoft Authenticator app, more information about accounts is visible. For example, the phone sing-in tool is shown. This is a one-time password issued by Microsoft. The cost can be used for a single authentication.

Also directly in the app, users can now update security information for accounts, including change the password.

“As part of our commitment to continually improve our customer experiences, we revamped the UX of how accounts are represented in the Microsoft Authenticator app. We heard from customers that staying informed about your account security should be simple and seamless, and we've been listening,” the company explained in March.

Available Now

Microsoft launched its Authenticator app back in 2016. The service provides native two-factor authentication on devices when accessing a Microsoft Account. Since the launch, numerous features have been added, including a phone sign-in ability, fingerprint support, password free login, and Apple Watch support.

To use the new password feature, users must be running the latest version of Microsoft Authenticator. If you're new to the app, you can download if from the Google Play Store here.
