Microsoft Acknowledges Windows 10 KB4556799 Bug Causing BSOD Crashes

Windows 10 KB4556799 appears to have its fair share of bugs, including causing BSODs. Microsoft says a fix is coming.

Many Window 10 users say the KB4556799 update patch is causing issues on their PCs. Among the problems reported are FPS drops, audio problems, and dreaded Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) crashes. Others are pointing to network problems, user profile issues, and more.

Windows 10 KB4556799 is the latest cumulative update rolled out by Microsoft. Following a worrying trend in recent times, the patch designed to fix issues is causing all new ones on the platform.

As is usually the case, not all Windows 10 users are affected. However, it seems to be a large subset of users who have already installed the update.

“I am also having the explorer refresh bug and it gets to the point where anything explorer related (everything) lags really bad or just doesnt respond,” one user wrote in a thread on Reddit.

Microsoft’s Answers forum is also lit up with people complaining about the problem. Clearly the biggest issue are BSOD crashes some users are reporting. However, it seems a variety of error codes are causing these crashes.

Upcoming Fix

Microsoft has acknowledged the problems and says it is investigating. The company says fixes are coming.

“After installing this update on a Windows 10 device with a wireless wide area network (WWAN) LTE modem, reaching the internet might not be possible,” Microsoft said.

For users who have already installed KB4556799, it’s best to revert to a former version of Windows 10. You can do this by heading to Settings > Update and Security > Windows Update > View Update History > Uninstall Update.

If you’ve yet to install this update, it’s best to wait until Microsoft has cleared up these problems.
