In October, Microsoft announced its Surface Neo and Surface Duo twin-screen devices. The Neo was to run the company’s Windows 10X platform but has since been postponed. However, the Android-powered Surface Duo is still coming and is Microsoft’s first smartphone in years.
It’s also a bleeding edge device, taking dual screened technology and packaging it in a high-end flagship smartphone. Since the announcement, Microsoft has been quite on both specs and price for the Surface Duo.
Many predicted the Duo would cost a lot and could even become the most expensive mainstream smartphone on the market. According to a new report, the Duo will be priced competitively against other cutting-edge handsets. Furthermore, the report also adds some interesting details about the Duo’s specs.
Windows Central cites unnamed sources who have disclosed valuable information about the Duo. Firstly, the exact price of the smartphone was not given, although the source says the handset will be priced below the Samsung Galaxy Fold.
The Galaxy Fold shares similarities with the Duo. It is a folding book-like device but instead of two separate screens, it has a single folding panel. Samsung sells the Fold for $2,000. We knew the Surface Duo would be in that ballpark, but it will be interesting to see how much Microsoft undercuts Samsung.
Specifications
In terms of specs, the Surface Duo will reportedly include Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 processor. Incidentally, that’s the same CPU used in the Galaxy Fold. Elsewhere, the Duo will have 6GB of RAM with between 64GB and 256GB of non-expandable storage. Both AMOLED screens will have a 4:3 aspect ratio and 1,800 x 1,350 pixel resolution.
Finally, there will be a USB-C port, Surface Pen support, and a 3,450mAh battery.
In terms of the camera, Microsoft has been quiet on the lens it will use in the Duo. Surface chief Panos Panay promised a high-end camera experience and teased the Duo’s snapper with a photo earlier this year. Windows Central’s source says the main camera will be a 11-megapixel lens. The source does not detail any additional lens or specific qualities of the camera.
