Microsoft Project xCloud Arrives in France, Germany, and Holland

Project xCloud is now available in preview for users in 3 new European countries, with another 8 to get the platform next week.

's Project xCloud is gathering pace even though it is still in preview. Earlier this month, Microsoft promised the cloud gaming platform would arrive in 11 new countries across Europe. Sticking to the pledge, the company has rolled out xCloud in Germany, the Netherlands, and France.

Furthermore, Microsoft said the other planned nations will receive the service next week. Those countries are Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Spain, and Sweden.

Microsoft has made it clear it has revised its roll out for Project xCloud. Specifically, the company is taken a slow approach to what is previously planned. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, telecommunication networks that deliver xCloud are under increased strain.

“We will take a measured approach to help conserve internet access, beginning the preview in each market with a limited number of people and adding more participants over time,” Catherine Gluckstein, GM & Head of Product for Project xCloud.

While xCloud is only coming to these 11 nations now, customers in the countries have been able to register their interest for some time. For those whose registration was accepted, they should receive an email about how to start with Project xCloud.

Availability

Microsoft has recently made xCloud available in iOS devices. However, in the new regions, the company says the preview is limited to smartphones and tablets.

While Microsoft is managing the roll out in view of COVID-19, the company says it feels xCloud can help people during the lockdown.

“It has been said too many times, but it's true we are living in unprecedented times due to the global COVID-19 pandemic,” said Catherine Glukstein, GM & head of product at xCloud. “Here at Xbox, we look to our products to bring joy and connection at all times and particularly during these weeks and months when we're asked to stay at home. We know we're in this together and the support we can provide one another is of critical importance now more than ever.”
