Microsoft Your Phone Receives Drag and Drop Feature

Your Phone now supports drag and drop files, although the tool is limited to Samsung smartphones and is currently in testing.

-

has confirmed an important new update for its Your Phone service for and . Specifically, the company says the much-requested drag and drop support is now coming to the services.

There are a couple of limitations, however. Firstly, drag and drop on Your Phone will only work for individual files and not folders. Secondly, for now the feature is only available for smartphones.

Furthermore, it's only possible to transfer up to 100 files at once and individual files are limited to 512MB in size. To start transferring files, open the Your Phone app on your Samsung Galaxy handset and on your Windows 10 PC.

Users can drag and drop from the Samsung My Files and Samsung Gallery apps on their device. Alternatively, you can drag and drop form PC to your Samsung smartphone. When a transfer is complete, the Your Phone app will send a notification on the phone.

Microsoft points out the new feature is about to roll out, although it will be limited to testers. That means it will have to pass through a full preview before reaching the full app experience. It seems likely Microsoft plans to bring this tool to the wider Android ecosystem but has given no word on when that expansion could happen.

Ongoing Development

Your Phone allows Android users to sync their smartphone to Windows 10. Last month, Microsoft brought an important feature to the tool. It is still taking a while for Your Phone to reach true maturity (considering it was launched at Build 2018), the app is now significantly more functional.

Microsoft has been increasingly boosting the capabilities of the app over the last year. In December, the company rolled out an update for all Android users to have the ability to make calls through Your Phone on their Windows 10 PC.
