It seems Microsoft’s plans to reach out to developers, consumers, and partners in 2020 are all but collapsing. Due to the coronavirus (COVID 19) outbreak, Microsoft has announced the cancellation of another event. Namely, the IoT Action event the company was due to host in Melbourne on March 5.
Microsoft confirmed the cancellation to attending partners via email. According to Microsoft, the reason is people unable to attend because of the coronavirus outbreak.
“After close consultation with our partners and community, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the IoT in Action Melbourne event this March 5, 2020,” Microsoft said “Microsoft regrets any inconvenience to IoT in Action sponsors and registrants.
“We are canceling this event because many of our customer[s] and partners are no longer able to attend, and us continuing to hold the event would no longer meet our business goals.
“Thank you for your continued support of IoT in Action and we will be in touch shortly with details of upcoming events,” Microsoft added.
Impact on Microsoft
Numerous major events have been cancelled around the world, including Microsoft dropping its own Ignite the Tour events from the calendar. The company was also impacted by the cancellation of the Mobile World Congress 2020 last month.
Microsoft said it would move its MWC-planned mixed reality announcements to a Dev Days event before Build 2020. However, even that is now under threat with Build 2020 possibly on the cancellation list. Following two deaths from coronavirus in the Seattle area, Microsoft may have to cancel the event.
The company’s Personal Computing division, which includes Windows 10, will miss financial expectations for the third quarter. Microsoft cited upstream supply issues caused by the coronavirus outbreak as the reason.
However, the company has today reported Microsoft Teams adoption has soared amidst the outbreak.
