Microsoft Releases Optional Updates for Windows 10 1809 and Below

Optional updates for Windows 10 1809, 1803, 1709 and 1607 are rolling out to users, fixing bugs with the touch keyboard, window resizing, and settings sync.

-

has released optional updates for users running the Windows 10 October 2018 update (1809) and lower. They contain several fixes across a range of sectors, from Mixed Reality to user settings and the touch keyboard.

Generally, they follow the updates that shipped last week and push the build to 17763.1012. With the end of support for 1809 fast approaching in May, users should really consider an upgrade to 1909 for the sake of security. However, these additions will at least keep the OS more stable in the meantime.

You can also grab versions of the updates on versions 1803, 1709, and 1607, provided you're still in support as an Enterprise or Education user. Here are the full notes:

  • “Updates an issue with Windows Mixed Reality that occurs after upgrading to a new version of Microsoft Edge.
  • Updates an issue that causes a device to repeatedly go into the Windows Out Of Box Experience (OOBE) restart loop in certain situations.
  • Updates an issue that causes the touch keyboard to close when you select any key.
  • Updates an issue that prevents users from reducing the size of a window in some cases.
  • Updates an issue that changes the user-customized order of tiles in the Start menu even though the layout is locked or partially locked.
  • Updates an issue that causes the Settings page to close unexpectedly.
  • Updates an issue that might prevent a user's settings from syncing across devices.”

As you can see, these are primarily minor annoyances, which explains while they're optional. Still, you can grab them by heading to Settings>Windows Update>Install Optional Updates.
