Users with a Windows Mixed Reality platform now have a new browser experience. Today, a Microsoft Store listing appeared for the new Firefox Reality browsers. Mozilla’s new web experience is a ground-up build specifically for virtual reality.
Now that Firefox Reality is available for Windows, it will be available for Windows MR, Quest, Oculus Go, and HTC Vive. Because the browser is specifically created for VR, its homepage is designed for headsets.
The app description reads:
“Firefox Reality brings the best and freshest content from the web that you know and love to Augmented Reality headsets. Our browser provides an open, accessible and secure way for everyone to explore the web. Experience sharp text, high quality videos, and a seamless transition from 2D to 3D immersive modes. Enjoy the best possible web browsing experience with Firefox Reality.”
Another noteworthy feature is the ability to send tabs from one device to another. It is worth noting that the browser is not available for HoloLens 2 just yet. You may remember Mozilla has promised a browser experience for Microsoft’s augmented reality device.
Availability
However, for the time being the availability of Firefox Reality is limited to virtual reality. Mozilla says it is developing a native version of its Firefox browser to run on the new HoloLens. Of course, Microsoft will also place its own Edge browser on the device, but more choice is welcome.
It’s good to see Windows Mixed Reality gain the new Firefox VR browser, bringing the platform’s devices in line with other VR headsets.
