Intel Gives Sincere Apology for CPU Shipment Delays, but Says It’s “Yet to Resolve” the Issue

Intel has apologized for its 14nm and 10nm PC CPU shortage after OEMs and partners have been left frustrated. Despite the acknowledgment, there's no end in sight.

-

has published an apology letter on its site after delays and resultant shortages of its 14nm and 10nm processors. The chipmaker appears to be making progress when it comes to supply, but admit's it's yet to fully resolve the issue.

“I'd like to acknowledge and sincerely apologize for the impact recent PC CPU shipment delays are having on your business and to thank you for your continued partnership,” said Michelle Johnston Holthaus, executive vice president of sales, marketing, and communications group. “I also want to update you on our actions and investments to improve supply-demand balance and support you with performance-leading Intel products. Despite our best efforts, we have not yet resolved this challenge.”

Holthaus says Intel managed to increase its PC CPU supply by double digits in the second half of the year when compared to the first. This was thanks to the investment in “record levels” of Capex to increase 14nm production while it also ramps up on 10nm.

Unfortunately, any increase in supply by Intel has been offset by an increase in demand for its products. The combination of high demand and low supply has impacted OEMs and sellers, with many far from happy.

According to TechRadar, the rumors from Intel partners and big OEMs is that the shortages will continue well into 2020. All of this happens as AMD competition ramps up, its 3000 series of Ryzen processors providing an attractive price-to-performance ratio.

“Because the impact and revised shipment schedules vary, Intel representatives are reaching out with additional information and to answer your questions,” finishes Holthaus. “We will continue working tirelessly to provide you with Intel products to support your innovation and growth”.
