Dell’s New Latitude 7220 Rugged Extreme Takes Windows Tablets into the Wild

Dell has announced its Latitude 7220 Rugged Extreme, a Windows 10 tablet that is designed for robust situations.

Finding a Windows 10 tablet is not hard considering the number of models available. However, if you need a slate that will take a beating then your options are more limited. Dell is hoping to solve that niche area of the market that craves a rugged tablet with its new Latitude 7220 Rugged Extreme.

As the name suggests, the device is built for a bit of rough and tumble. Whether you want some entertainment on your next adventure into the mountains or need something durable for practical work needs, this is the answer.

With the Latitude 7220 Rugged Extreme, Dell has upped the durability of the slate. The company says the tablet can be dropped from four feet and survive. Moreover, it can go through extremes of temperature between -20 and 145 degrees Fahrenheit.

Thanks to its MIL-STD-810H testing, this is perhaps the most rugged tablet on the market. Finally, the IP65 dust and waterproofing add to the work-anywhere abilities of the Latitude 7220 Rugged Extreme.

Also lending to out-and-about use is a hot-swappable battery and a configuration up to two 34Whr 2-cell li-ion juicers.

Specs

Looking at the traditional specs, the 7220 is a solid tablet. It has an 11.6-inch display with 1080p Full HD resolution, a panel that boasts 1,000 nits brightness and anti-glare coating. As this is an outdoor-focused tablet, the screen specs seem to line up to offering a good viewing experience in direct sunlight.

Under the hood, Dell has employed Intel’s Whiskey Lake CPUs and up to 16GB RAM to provide the guts of the device. Customers can also configure up to a 2TB PCIe MVMe SSD. In terms of connectivity, the Latitude 7220 support up to Wi-Fi 6. There is also a variant with a Qualcomm Snapdragon X20 4G LTE chip for cell connectivity.

Dell says the Latitude 7220 Rugged Extreme is available from today. Its price tag is as hefty as the device itself, starting at $1,899.
