users are reporting several issues with their Surface Pro 7 and Surface Laptop 3 devices (via OnMSFT). While reviewers have had little but praise for the devices, some publications, such as Notebook Check, have also highlighted problems.

The publication says its 15″ 5 has moderate backlight bleeding, DPC latency issues, and display flickering. Interestingly, Reddit users are reporting a multitude of different issues, many of them different from Notebook Checks'.

“Received my SP7 i7, 512GB, 16GB RAM today and its just horrendous, I don't know whats up with it but it seems to run like treacle, every seems to take forever to load and its almost like touches are registering correctly on the screen, horrendous lag when using the Surface Pen,” said /u/Chrismscotland “I can only assume its faulty in some way but not impressed”.

Meanwhile, several users are reporting abnormally loud fans. This includes u/mancala24 with a Ryzen 7 Laptop 3, and u/Gernug with the Pro 7. Other issues with the Pro 7 appear to include wobbly kickstands and rattling noises.

Meanwhile, several users are reporting that their 13.5″ i5 Surface are freezing consistently. This appears to happen primarily during charging. Laptop Mag said its SL3's SSD was reaching speeds of 282.7, which is slow for its price range. Others say the device has sluggish WiFi out of sleep and strange resolution/screen issues.

A Return to Poor Quality Control?

While some of these sound like the quality control issues that have plagued the Surface line, it's very early days. Users with issues are bound to report them, while those with none will stay quiet. The first few days of having a device are often when it's most likely to be sluggish or buggy, given that it has to install updates, drivers, and more.

So far, has been quick to roll out software fixes, with a pre-release firmware update for the Pro 7 improving battery life and the Cortana speech experience. Meanwhile, the got some improvements to general reliability.

With hope, users with serious issues will get fast replacements and a litany of updates. We'll be keeping an eye on the situation to make sure none of these problems are widespread.
