Microsoft has announced a new set of processor support for Windows for IoT, while also expanding the intelligent edge capabilities of the platform. According to the company, the improvements will provide customers with more ways to explore digital transformation.
Looking at the increased choice of silicon, Microsoft says Windows 10 IoT Core Board Support Packages for the NXP i.MX series of CPU are now generally available. This includes the i.MX6, i.MX7, i.MX 8M and i.MX 8M Mini series’.
If you’re unfamiliar with NXP, it is one of the main suppliers of high-security connectivity for embedded devices. By integrating the silicon with Windows 10 IoT Core, device manufacturers can build more secure and enterprise-ready devices.

SQL Server IoT 2019
Microsoft has announced SQL Server IoT 2019 Data storage and analytics on Windows for IoT. SQL Server has been a major part of embedded solutions for a long time and now the latest 2019 version is available.
“We are introducing SQL Server IoT 2019, which is the binary equivalent to SQL Server 2019 and will be licensed through the OEM channel and is specifically designed for dedicated-use, server-class edge appliances running application software.”
SQL Server IoT 2019 gives Windows Server IoT 2019 users direct access to a database that offers critical data analytics. Microsoft says scalability, performance, and security are part of the SQL Server 2019 package.
